  1. How do I put my wig on?
    1) Give the wig a gentle shake. 2) Identify the front and the back of the wig. The label always goes in the back. Note the Velcro tabs for sizing. Leave the tabs as is at first. You can adjust them later if necessary. 3) Place the wig on a flat surface so you are looking inside the wig. Make sure the label is at the top (the label is at the back of the wig). Grasp the wig at the top (back), with your hands placed on each side of the label. 4) Slip the wig over the head starting at the hairline and then towards the neck. The front of the wig should lie on the front hairline. 5) The wig should feel secure, but not too tight. If needed, you can adjust the size with the Velcro tabs inside the wig.

  2. Can you explain the different kinds of wigs?
The cap is the base of the wig onto which hair is attached. Wigs are available with several different types of caps and the hair of the wig is then attached to the cap using various techniques. Each cap type has its own distinct advantages. On most wigs, hair is attached in "wefts." These are strings of hair doubled over and sewn closely together in long strands. This string is then machine sewn, hand sewn or hand tied horizontally onto the vertical lines of a wig cap. A standard cap is the most common and most affordable cap design. The layers of hair are machine-sewed onto the cap, which has a closed lace layer at the crown. The hair is pre-designed into a specific style and the crown is often lightly teased or crimped so you cannot see down through to the cap. This type of cap often gives the hair a natural lift at the crown for volume. A capless wig is very similar to the standard cap design. However, instead of the closed lace layer at the crown, it has vertical lace strips with open spaces between the wefts. The open-wefting in the crown, back, and sides allows for maximum ventilation. This makes the cap lighter weight and cooler than a standard cap. Monofilament caps are constructed using a thin, breathable nylon or polyester mesh material at the crown that gives the illusion of skin and assumes the wearer's natural scalp color by partially revealing the scalp below. Monofilament caps offer the most natural look as well as styling versatility because each hair is individually hand tied at the crown so the hair can be parted and brushed in any direction. The entire wig may be hand tied, or the wig may have a monofilament crown with wefted sides and back. Monofilament wigs are an especially good choice for those with severe or total hair loss as the cap is soft, unlike cloth material, which can be itchy to those with sensitive scalps.

  3. I have a medical condition, can I use NaturStyle?
At NaturStyle we do not recommend the use of any hair colourant if you suffer from a medical condition. Please take the ingredient list to your doctor who will advise you on whether it is appropriate.

  4. How often should I wash my wig?
The frequency of washing depends on factors such as air quality and humidity. Generally, a wig should be washed after it has been worn 8 – 12 times, but this can vary.

  5. Which should I choose, synthetic or human hair?
Today's better quality synthetic wigs (which is all you will find at wigs.com) are virtually indistinguishable from human hair, except to the most practiced eye. Synthetic wigs are easier to care for and lower priced. The monofilament fiber "hair" used to make synthetic wigs has "memory" which means it maintains its wave or curl, texture and volume, requiring minimal upkeep. Synthetic wigs, however, are not designed to accept a permanent wave or color change and can be permanently damaged by the use of curling irons, blow dryers or hot rollers. Human Hair A human hair wig is the most natural looking option. It can be cut, styled, permed or colored to suit your personal taste. Human hair wigs are more durable than synthetic wigs. However, human hair wigs are more expensive that synthetic wigs and require more care. They have to be shampooed, dried, styled and conditioned, just like your natural hair. Like your hair, they can lose their style if they get wet and frizz on humid days. If you feel that you are not able to provide the care required of a human hair wig, there are human hair-synthetic blended wigs that offer a natural look and will retain the style better than a 100% human hair wig. There are four basic types of human hair used in wigs: Chinese, Indian, Indonesian and Caucasian (also called European hair). Most human hair wigs are made from Chinese or Indian hair. Caucasian/European is the strongest, most durable human hair for wig making. However, this type of hair is not as readily available and is the most expensive. Remy hair is kept in the same direction when making a wig or hairpiece as when cut from the donor's head. This additional attention to detail maintains the hair cuticle in the same direction for each hair, which, in turn, reduces tangling.

  6. How do I wash my wig?
    1) Gently brush the wig thoroughly with a wig brush. 2) Add one tablespoon of wig shampoo to a sink filled with cold water. 3) Immerse wig for one minute and agitate gently. Do not rub. 4) Rinse the wig gently in cold clear water twice or until thoroughly rinsed. 5) Blot the wig gently with a towel. Do not squeeze or wring. 6) Apply conditioning spray very lightly over wig, spraying 10-12 inches from the wig. 7) Allow the wig to air dry on a slender object like a can of hairspray or a shampoo bottle covered with a hand towel. Styrofoam heads may stretch the cap. 8) Do not use a hair dryer. Air dry only. You may gently style the wig with your fingertips. 9) Brush wig only when completely dry. Do not allow the wig to dry in direct sunlight.

  7. How do I know what size to get?
Average wigs fit heads from 21.5" to 22.5". Ninety-five percent of our customers fall into this range. For instructions on how to measure your head size, click here. Your wig should be worn on your natural hairline, approximately four fingers above the eyebrows. The back of the wig should be pulled down to the natural hairline in the back. Wigs have adjustable Velcro and elastic tabs in the back so you can adjust your wig for a secure, comfortable fit. There are also small tabs in the front of the ears that can be adjusted to hold the wig close to the face.

  8. What if I need a wig or hairpiece for medical reasons?
We are registered with the Ministry of Health for HEALTH PAC for subsidy on wigs and hair pieces. Your GP or medical specialist will inform you about the service payment and issue you with a medical certificate. All you will then need to do is go to www.umoja.co.nz and choose the right Wig or Hairpiece for you. Once you have chosen your wig, hairpiece or other item you may either request the supplier to make a claim to HealthPAC on your behalf or make a claim yourself.

  9. How do I style my wig?
Your wig can be styled by using a wig brush, a wig comb, or your fingertips. Avoid using a brush designed for human hair. These brushes can create excessive tension, over-stretching the hair with abrasive strokes that may damage the hair. The wigs we carry are shake & wear and can be styled by simply using a wide tooth comb or your fingertips. The best styling tool is the most inexpensive; a spray bottle of clean, cool water. Lightly spritz your wig with water to remove static electricity and return your wig to its original look. To achieve style variations, liquid wig mousse is an essential styling tool. For curly or wavy styles, just mousse, hand scrunch, and pick the style into curls. On straight styles, mousse and brush lightly. Your wig was designed with a basic style but the variations you can achieve through styling are limitless. Added height can be achieved by gently lifting with the wig comb. If you want added fullness as well, tease or back-comb and then smooth the surface hair over the teasing. Your wig can be returned to its basic style by washing it and allowing it to air dry. To completely restyle, we recommend taking your wig to a professional stylist.

  10. How do I know what color to choose?
Different settings on individual monitors may distort or change colors. The safest way to get the color that best matches your own hair is to take advantage of our Color Ring on Loan Program and Hair sample.

  11. Can I cut my wig?
Yes! Your wig comes pre-styled with a basic style, but we encourage our clients to have their wigs customized by a professional hair stylist. This is a great way to make the wig uniquely your own. Often, a little trim on the bangs and a little thinning here or there can make all the difference in the world. The wig should be cut while you are wearing it. Everyone has a different face shape, a different forehead length, and different style preferences. Seek out the assistance of experienced professional, and only allow the wig to be cut while it is on your head.

  12. How do I achieve a natural look?
Most fashion wigs come with 10% to 30% too much hair, which is why all wigs can benefit from fine-tuning by a professional stylist. Some wigs may require minimal shaping, whereas other wigs may need significant thinning. One of the secrets to successfully wearing a wig a wig is having it professionally styled on your head to suit your features

  13. What should I avoid?
    1) Do not expose your wig to heat in excess of 160°. (Like opening an oven door, standing near a barbecue grill, etc.) This will damage the wig fibers. Any type of heat will cause wig fibers to frizz (lamps, ovens/stoves, heat from body). 2) Do not brush your wig when wet. 3) Do not use any form of curling irons, hot rollers or blow dryers. Again, heat will ruin the wig. 4) Do not use products designed for regular human hair. Only use wig shampoo, wig conditioner, wig hair spray, wig mousse, and brushes or combs made especially for wigs. We sell these wig care products at a great price or they can also be purchased from any wig store. 5) Do not use bleaches, colors, or rinses on your wig. 6) We do not recommend wearing your wig in a swimming pool.

  14. Do you have any final tips?
    1) Use products specifically designed for wigs. These products are created specifically for synthetic hair. They will keep the wig looking natural by not stripping away the color or the natural sheen. The use of these products will help the wig to last longer. 2) Keep your wig stored on a wig stand or other "makeshift" item (such as a can of hairspray). This will help it hold its style and shape. 3) Enjoy your wig and have fun wearing it!

  15. What causes sudden darkening under the eyes?
Generally dark circles under the eyes are caused from not getting enough sleep, wearing too much make-up, or it can be a skin irritation.

  16. How can I reduce puffiness, redness and bloating on my face?
For any kind of puffiness, cold is the secret. For puffiness on your face, try soaking a washcloth in equal parts of whole milk and cold water. Apply the cloth to your face for about 10 to 15 minutes. This will help soothe any irritation as well as reduce the puffiness or bloating. For puffiness around the eyes tea bags work quite well when applied to the eyes. Also another trick I've used and like is keep a spoon in the freezer and apply it gently to your eyes as soon as you wake up in the morning. This relieves puffiness nicely.

  17. How often should I shampoo?
It is recommended that the hair should be shampooed at least once a week, to help remove residual styling products, normal dead skin cells, etc. Your hair may need more frequent shampooing depending on your activities like aerobics. swimming, or other outdoor exercise due to perspiration, pollen, dirt, etc… However, be cautious not to shampoo too often, or use "hard water" with high mineral levels, because you could strip hair of natural oils which can cause hair & scalp dryness.

  18. Does the shampoo I use make a difference or is it all just the "hype"?
There are thousands of shampoos on the market, for different hair types, textures and styling needs- From shampoos for dry hair and to "extend" or enhance hair color, to shampoos that neutralize chemical treatments! For a general shampoo, find one that will gently cleanse and condition, and not strip the hair of vital nutrients. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Clean & Healthy Conditioning Shampoo, Parnevu T-Tree Shampoo, Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Shampoo)

  19. How often should I "deep condition"?
Deep condition at least once a month. Gently shampoo your hair, and apply the deep conditioner so it completely saturates hair from scalp to ends. Leave on for 15-20 minutes under a thin plastic or thermal "heat cap", to permit conditioners to penetrate scalp and deep in the hair shaft. Rinse well and style as desired. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Growth Masque Strengthening Deep Conditioner, organic Root Stimulator Mayonnaise, Parnevu Mayonnaise)

  20. Why is deep conditioning important?
Deep conditioning provides more intense strengthening and moisturization, helps "restore" some natural oils and, and can help eliminate dry & brittle hair. Deep conditioning can also enhance your hair's luster (sheen) and body.

  21. How do I determine my own "hair type"?
It's not easy to determine hair-type on your own, and we suggest you get initial help from a Professional Stylist. A Stylist can examine individual strand samples from your head, test tensile strength and elasticity, and wet & dry your hair to see how your hair reacts to physical manipulation and treatments….. Hair strands have varying diameters or thickness, and natural "curl" and "wave" patterns that designate it as fine, medium, or course.

  22. How do I determine the right hair care system for me?
Observe how your hair responds to the products and styling tools you use. No matter the length, does your hair have body, look shiny, feel smooth & strong? Keep a "hair diary" and take seasonal headshot photos to be mindful of the condition of your hair. Listen to compliments from others, because it's usually an indication that you've selected the right hair care regimen for you and your lifestyle and personality.

  23. How can I get my hair to grow?
There are usually both internal and external factors that impact normal hair growth, like hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, excessive heat styling, over-processing, HBP medication, etc…. However, most times hair is actually growing, but, with breakage and split ends normal growth isn't noticeable. Your primary objective should be to prevent hair breakage. Use products to increase "slippage" and detangling, avoid heat styling whenever possible, and don't pull or stretch wet hair which is more prone to "pop", and keep hair conditioned for better elasticity. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv BreakFree Leave-in Strengthener and/or Healthy Ends Deep Repair Creme)

  24. What can I do for my dry hair & scalp?
Dry hair & scalp really begins with genetics, diet, water intake, climate & overall general health condition! But, you can take measures that help, Avoid using products that clog pores and inhibit natural sebum secreted down hair shaft, use a light daily moisturizer or leave-in conditioner, wrap hair at night, because friction on linens is drying and don't use sponge rollers that rob hair of moisture. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Root Health or Profectiv Long N Healthy Mega Moisturizer)

  25. I'm going through menopause, what can I do for my dry hair & scalp?
Menopause can cause abnormal hair thinning and shedding. Hormones play a major role in the health of our hair & scalp. Again, a vitamin and mineral enriched diet, increased circulation and daily water intake will help. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Growth N Healing Anti-thinning Stimulant)

  26. Can the medication I take affect my hair?
Yes, medications can have an affect on your hair texture and how it responds to hair products

  27. Can shampooing with very hot water damage my hair?
Yes, because it can physically remove natural oils deep in the hair shaft and in your scalp. Warm water is best when shampooing, and use slightly cooler water for your final rinse

  28. Can I condition my hair too much?
Yes, the hair can be overly conditioned and lead to limp and "lifeless" hair. Over-conditioning can weight the hair down by coating the surface of the hair. This can impede proper styling and the impact ability of the hair to "hold a curl".

  29. It is bad to switch from relaxed hair to "natural" hair styles frequently?
No, not as long as hair is conditioned well, ends are clipped regularly and hair is not kept under "tension" in tight braids or a tight weave for long periods of time.

  30. I swim a lot for exercise….what can I do about the chlorine?
Chlorine can remove needed proteins (building blocks) from the hair. Always shampoo and condition after swimming and use a conditioning leave-in for added re-moisturization. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Clean N Healthy Shampoo and 60 Sec Strengthener Reconstructor)

  31. I use well water at home… is hard water damaging and does it affect the overall condition of hair and scalp?
Most quality hair care products include ingredients that counteract high harsh mineral deposits from water. However, hard water may interfere with the color signal feature during the relaxer neutralization process. If relaxer creme was rinsed well from the hair, and hair was shampooed over 3 times and shampoo foam still had a pinkish color, high mineral content in the water, may be the culprit!

  32. How often should I hot curl my hair?
In order to maintain healthy hair, try to “hot curl” at a minimum (only several times a week). Regular usage of direct heat causes the hair to be dry and brittle. If your hairstyle requires “bumping” hair daily, wrap hair at night with silk scarf and/or use products that will protect the hair from breakage and dryness. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Mega Growth Anti Breakage Growth Revitalizer Hair N Scalp Conditioner or Profectiv Mega Growth Strengthener Growth Lotion)

  33. Can I “press & curl” relaxed hair?
Definitely not! The processes are totally different and combining them would be disastrous for your hair. Please remember the humidity and climate provides us with an excellent indication in relationship to which process would be the most beneficial for our hair texture and type.

  34. Should I “wrap” my hair at night?
Wrapping hair with a silk or satin head scarf at night is an excellent way to promote healthy hair. Pillowcases can cause hair dryness and breakage. The technique takes a little practice but within a few nights, it will reduce added styling stress on hair, and the need for excessive hot curl touch-ups. Hint: Keep hair ends clipped, for the movement and added body!

  35. If my hair is thin, should I blow-dry or “air dry” my hair?
This hair is extremely prone to split ends and breakage. Apply a light conditioner or a heat protectant to the hair and comb the hair straight down. Then allow the hair to dry naturally or sit under a hooded dryer in order to reduce tension on the hair. Style as desired. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Breakfree Daily Leave-In Strengthener as either a either a leave-in or rinse out conditioner.)

  36. How can I get better hold for my style?
A hairstyle can “hold” if the proper products are selected for the hair’s texture and hairstyle, the ends are trimmed regularly and the hair is healthy. Go easy on hair sprays or spritzes they can be drying. Hair gels are terrific for holding styles, in place! Also, be careful not to use “too much” product, you don’t want to weigh the hair down!

  37. I live in a hot & humid climate, how can I prevent “frizzy” hair?
Split ends can cause “frizzy hair” in hot and humid climates. In addition, select a light hairdress and lightly apply the product before styling your hair. Also, try setting the hair on magnetic rollers with a styling lotion or detangler. (Suggestion: Profectiv Mega Growth Lotion and or MegaGrowth Revitalizer Hairdress.)

  38. How do I know if I have a skin condition, dandruff, or just a dry scalp?
Scalp conditions may be attributed to a variety or combination of factors… Product usage, heat styling, bonding glue, stress, smoking, medication, menopause, pregnancy, medical treatments, genetics, etc… Be very aware of the products that are used and maintain a mental note for comparison purposes, for when scalp issues arise. Then, if the condition progresses seek the assistance of a professional hair stylist or a dermatologist. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Mega Growth Anti-Breakage Strengthener Growth Oil, or Growth N Repair Anti-Itch Serum).

  39. What causes dandruff?
Dandruff is a very common skin disorder and can be caused by a variety of external activities, like: excessive use of hair sprays and gels, improper use of hair-coloring products or excessive use of hot hair curlers or curling irons, cold weather and dry indoor heating, stress and anxiety, infrequent shampooing of the hair or inadequate rinsing of the scalp and hair, etc. Dandruff can also be caused by many internal factors: hormonal imbalance, poor health, poor hygiene, allergic hypersensitivity, lack of rest, emotional stress, excessive consumption of sugar, fat or starch, improper nutrition or merely heredity predisposition. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Root Health and or 3 N 1 Solution to help moisturize scalp, Optimum Daily Flake Control).

  40. Can conditioning my hair & scalp help prevent dryness?
Yes, using a shampoo and conditioner designed to provide moisturize to the hair will prevent dryness. Also, avoid using products that contain alcohol. Use light hairdress crèmes to the scalp to that addresses dryness. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Root Health Daily Anti-Dryness Strengthener).

  41. Should I use end papers when I roller set?
End papers should be used to protect the hair from direct heat, if a hooded dryer is being used. End papers prevent the hair from frizzing. Also, the end papers help to secure the hair neatly around the roller.

  42. Does it matter what type of comb or brush I use when styling my hair?
Yes, the size and type of comb and brush used on the hair is very significant. Use a large toothed comb to detangle the hair. After the hair has been detangled, a smaller toothed comb maybe used. Never brush wet hair because wet hair is very fragile. If a brush is used on the hair, brush the hair gently.

  43. How do I know the appropriate hair care regimen to select, for my hair type and style preferences?
Knowing your hair’s texture is very important, because your texture of the hair will provide you with an indication of the type of products that should be used and the hair style that is most appreciate for you and your hairstyle

  44. Does wearing a silk scarf or cap help prevent hair breakage or hair loss?
Yes, using a silk scarf will assist with reducing breakage and split ends. Also, the hair will maintain sheen much better.

  45. Is it good to switch hair styles frequently?
Switching hairstyles frequently depends on the individual’s lifestyle and hair texture. Changing hairstyles provides a variety of options, however if your selection causes your hair to be stressed or damaged then choose a hairstyle that will maintain healthy hair.

  46. Can I condition my hair too much?
Conditioning the hair once a week is an excellent part of proper hair care maintenance. When over conditioning occurs, the hair will become limp and you may experience difficult maintaining a hairstyle. (Suggestion: Profectiv Anti Breakage Strengthening Reconstructor).

  47. Does protein really help strength of my hair when styling?
Protein will definitely strengthen your hair and gradually reduce breakage. Also, you will receive the best results from protein immediately after the relaxation process while the hair is wet. Please note that the protein should never be over used. (Suggestion: Try Profectiv Mega Growth Conditioner).

  48. What is resorcinol & what are its effects on my hair?
Resorcinol is a white crystalline phenol obtained from various resins; it is a common cheap ingredient which is found in most hair colours especially the dark colours. NaturStyle does not contain resorcinol. We have avoided using resorcinol due to its known high irritation level and its association with various skin conditions including contact dermatitis and other more fatal conditions.

  49. What is ammonia & what are its effects on my hair?
Ammonia is extensively used to manufacture fertilisers and a wide variety of nitrogen containing chemicals including hair colourants as it is a very cheap aggressive ingredient that quickly opens the hair cuticle. NaturStyle does not use ammonia because of its highly damaging nature which with time can affect the hair fibre. Strong colour changes can not be made due to the lack of ammonia, colouring two tones at a time (as suggested by NaturStyle) however protects the hair in the long term.

  50. Is quaternary ammonium compounds the same as ammonia?
No, they are in the same family but do not have the same chemical make-up, quaternary ammonium compounds are made up of organic groups. The quaternary ammonium compounds are used in the hair conditioner as an anti-static agent and are considered to be a very safe ingredient that is used extensively in the cosmetics industry.

  51. What is Nutrideep and how does it work?
Nutrideep is the newly formulated conditioner for after colouring application. With Nutrideep, the hair is restructured and protected. Natural shine and texture is revived along with healthy, manageable hair and long lasting colour.

No, you only need to use the colour of your dyed hair, for example if you coloured your hair from 3N to 9N (passing through 5N and 7N first) then you only need to use 9N on the roots. If you have stubborn grey hair follow the stubborn grey hair hint.
